Quick Update!

Hi everyone!

I know a lot of you have been checking the blog looking for updates, and believe me, I have been itching to write one!  We have been so busy since Friday when we closed, but I have a little down time tonight so I thought I would update you on our progress with the move!  There won't be too many pictures of the house in this post, but there will be more to follow on the sister blog in the coming days! Remember, this one is password protected, so contact me and I will give you the password.

We closed on Friday morning at 10am.  And boy, did it pour!  It poured on the way to closing, let up during closing, then walloped us on our way home from closing.  We let the rain die down a little, had some lunch, then made our first trip (with stuff) to the house around 12:30pm.  We made 5 more trips on Friday, with a full load of stuff in the Rav.  It drizzled all afternoon, but we didn't let that stop us!  We were very lucky that for the rest of the move we had awesome weather, despite contrary forecasts.

Our first trip of stuff to the new house-- the essentials!

Before the last trip, the trip that brought Dora to the new house from the apartment, we stopped at Target to purchase an air mattress and other essentials (i.e. powdered coffee creamer since we had no refrigerator) so that we could stay the night.  I mean, how hard would it be to have stayed living somewhere when the shiny new place was just sitting there waiting!  We finally stayed at the house for the night around 7pm, and ordered Dominos for dinner.  Isn't that how the first night in the new house is supposed to be?

Domino's for dinner on our first night in the house.

Doesn't that look comfy cozy? No wonder we hadn't been sleeping well!

Dora was very skiddish and spent most of her time the first night hiding behind boxes in our closet.  Around 2 am, however, she decided that she wanted to explore the rest of the apartment and was very vocal about her desires.  She then let us go back to sleep until about 4:30, when she woke me up for good.  By 5am, we were both up, and by 6am, we were at the old apartment loading another car-full of stuff.  We did two trips on Saturday, one early and one later in the afternoon after the cable was set up and the fridge was delivered.  We tried a new place for dinner that is close by us and got rave reviews from just about everyone: Sammy's.  It was every bit as delicious as we heard it was: I had the red beans and rice with sausage and Mike had the country fried chicken.  So delicious!

Dora getting used to her surroundings-- by the first night she was getting the hang of it (and enjoying looking out the low windows in the master).

Sunday, we did one more trip.  I actually can't remember much of Sunday right now, since there were no large milestone type things that happened that day.  More loading, unloading, cleaning and unpacking.  We tried another new restaurant, La Carreta, for dinner and had nachos and quesadillas for dinner.  OK, we did not eat very healthily during this move, but we figured since it was just us moving our stuff, we had to be burning thousands of calories, right? ;)

Monday was a little more exciting since the movers met us at the apartment around 8:30am.  You know, it's a good thing that we scheduled everything so early this week because we have hardly been sleeping anyway!  We've been up around 6:30 at the latest every morning-- between new house sounds and Dora adjusting, we have been living off adrenaline and fumes.  Anyway, two awesome guys from Two Men and a Truck helped us move our large furniture: our couches, bedroom sets, etc.  They were really efficient and super careful, and we were so happy to have had their help.  We took a load of stuff in the Rav, too (trip #10 if you're counting) and spent the rest of the day unpacking (and making a Home Depot run).  I even cooked for the first time last night!

Today, we again, bright and early, were at the apartment to gather our final belongings and clean.  That place was spic and span when we left-- probably cleaner than when we moved in.  We said goodbye, handed our keys in, and went to run some errands: fun stuff like going to Whole Foods to purchase an orchid for the bathroom (I have to show you a picture later.. it is so gorgeous!) and to Lowe's to purchase a plant for the living room.  Turns out Mike is amazing with plants, and since I am terrible, as long as he takes care of them we can have beautiful plants here!  Some of our new furniture was delivered today, too, and we spent the rest of the day unpacking, organizing and putting stuff away.  It really is coming along very nicely!

Mike's dad arrives in town tomorrow, and they have lots to do while he is here!  Lots of projects will be happening that we have been planning for a while now, and I will definitely fill you all in next week!  I also had a four-week online course begin on Monday, so these next few weeks are bound to be crazy but wonderful.  We can't wait to share everything with you!
