Keys (and thank you!)

Hi everyone!  We are officially done!

Yesterday, we had our first walk-through with the construction supervisor, Ryan.  He went through every nook and cranny of the house with us, taught us how to use our appliances and mechanical equipment, showed us some features we didn't even know we had, and answered all of our questions.   That was our opportunity to also note any dings in the walls, paint splatters, scratches in the cabinets, etc.  We kept him busy for almost 3 hours!  Our realtor, Lawanna, also showed up during the walk through.  It was nice to see her, because we haven't seen her since February when we wrote our purchase order!  After the walk-through, we went to a new restaurant for us: Mellow Mushroom Pizza.  We don't usually go out for pizza, but some friends recommended it and we thought the menu looked good.  The food was great, the ambiance was fun, and they had great music playing.  Oh, and they had soft pretzels for an appetizer.  Yum!

A very trippy environment-- those are sequined mannequins hanging from the ceiling.  Our table had a black light over it!

As it turns out, Ryan is going out of town on Friday and wouldn't be back before our scheduled closing next week, so he decided to get all of the work done early and do our final walk-through today.  Normally, this would have happened next week, but we all agreed that it would be best to do it while Ryan was in town.  So they still have some small things to finish up, and our tree is going to be re-planted (no one, including Ryan's boss, thought it was a good idea to have that tree there.  Thanks to those who agreed with us that it wasn't in a great spot).  But he re-keyed the locks today and we have keys!  We can't officially move anything over until we've closed, so we still have to be patient, but at least we can go in whenever we want at this point, and no one else can get in (meaning potential buyers who might want to come by and see the house).

A little welcome gift from DSLD and our KEYS!

Note from the DSLD realtor who was wonderful throughout the entire process.  We really cannot say how pleased we were with the entire experience and how knowledgeable, helpful and patient the team is.  We were very lucky to find this neighborhood and take advantage of this opportunity.

After the final walk-through, we were on our way home and the sky opened up.  You know those scary rains I've talked about on here a few times? Yeah, we got caught in one of those.  In separate cars.  And I had to face my fears and drive through it.  I didn't realize how badly I was shaking until we got home, but we both made it safely.  I just felt that I needed to report that, since it was terrifying but also a proud moment at the same time, and it's something I really wasn't looking forward to!

Thank you to all of you who followed our journey building the house.  While we're not officially done yet (we are scheduled to close next week), we must say that we are so pleased that we could share this adventure with you.  There will be lots more to come on this blog, and hopefully more down time once we settle in to start writing about other things and some of the projects we plan to do!
